I am an experienced enthusiastic nurse with over 15 years at a senior level. With a passion for delivering the best care we can for patients I have spent the last ten years working at the front line within high profile improvement programs specialising in putting the theory into practice. I'm told I am a strong leader and facilitator of improvement and transformational change I have a track record of developing capacity and capability for improvement, locally, regionally nationally and internationally by developing and facilitating communities of improvement across programmes and clinical disciplines. The work I have done has always focused on developing the emotional intelligence of both individuals and teams and organisations. This combined with a sound practical knowledge of improvement science enables her to ensure the policy and theory is turned into practice.

Looking after our elders

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/8536172/Hospitals-failing-to-provide-basic-care-for-elderly.html
Last night I spent half an hour with a friend of my sons. He recounted the very sad story of how the care of his Mum had been minimal and neglectful in our local hospital in Blackburn. Im too experienced to start blaming individuals, this is a fundamental system error.
However is much more than that, how can you profess to be a nurse and leave patients in soiled beds, how can you nurse and not ensure patients are fed and have clean water regularly, how can you nurse and do your patients harm by leaving soiled bedlinen on their tables, how can you nurse and tell patients its not their turn for a bath today.
The answer is simple you are not nursing
As nurses we are all responsible for the care we deliver, if its sub standard then it comes down to you-no excuses.
So please look at whats happening and don't be apathetic, get angry, make some changes, make it better for the poor souls who are entrusted to you by their families.
You know what somewhere not far down the line that will be your family and then you and won't you wish you had done something then.
